Henning Schmiedt, born in 1965 in the former East Germany, is a masterful concert pianist, composer and arranger. He has been involved in pioneering cross-border genre – jazz, classic, world music, and other styles. For many years Schmiedt has served as musical director and arranger as well as, right-hand man, for Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis, one of the greatest of the 20th century. Schmiedt’s piano solo albums, which have been released from Tokyo-based music label FLAU, have become enduring bestsellers. In recent years, he released “Sitano”, that featured zitherist Aki Ueda, and a single, “Stille Natt”, a collaboration with up-and-coming Norwegian/Irish singer Tara Nome Doyle. In February, 2020, he will release a new album “Schlafen.” Schmiedt has been honored by receiving the Jazz award of the IFPI, the German critics award.
