Moerenuma Park is the culmination work of Isamu Noguchi, the self-proclaimed "citizen of Spaceship Earth.” Inspired by Noguchi's "sculptures of the earth" scattered around a former industrial waste disposal site, "Crust" looks as lovely as a child's building blocks; but its inspiration came from a diagram showing fault movement, which is familiar in Japan, an earthquake-prone country. The earthquake that occurred during the creation of the work gave Misawa an inspiration. The hand-crafted wooden model is coated with leather to express the displacement movement of the plates. The pleasing color came from the park’s playground; this piece blends in like a tempting new addition where you can put your feet up. “Crust” is dedicated to Moerenuma Park.
